Jackson State presidential search committee selected. Public forum and committee meeting set for Sept. 1

JSCC Hub

The Search Advisory Committee for a new president of Jackson State Community College has been selected and will meet Thursday, Sept. 1, after a public forum to gather campus and community input.

The public forum will be held from 11 a.m. to noon CST in the Ayers Auditorium of the Ned R. McWherter Center on the Jackson State campus in Jackson, Tenn. The Search Advisory Committee will meet at 1:30 p.m. in the college’s Jim Moss Center for Nursing, Room 203. Both are open to the public.

Jackson State’s fourth president, Dr. Bruce Blanding, previously announced his plan to retire effective Jan. 31, 2017, after leading the college since February 2004. The new president is expected to be selected before Dr. Blanding leaves office.

The public forum will allow campus and community members to voice their views about the qualities the advisory committee should look for when reviewing candidates. The committee will convene for its meeting at 1:30 p.m. to discuss the timeline and procedures for selecting finalists to become the next campus leader.

The committee will work with executive search firm Greenwood/Asher & Associates to help identify a broad range of highly qualified candidates from around the country.

The committee’s charge is to identify three to five finalists, who will be invited to the campus at later dates to be determined, for interviews with the committee, students, faculty, administration, staff and the public. TBR Chancellor David Gregory will then select a final candidate for submission to the full Board of Regents for its consideration and approval.
