Dyersburg State Celebrates 45th Anniversary
Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) recently held its 45th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, November 8 at the E.H. Lannom, Jr. Gymnasium on the Dyersburg campus. Over 225 guests were in attendance to celebrate and showcase the College’s accomplishments over the past 45 years.
The evening began with a welcome from Dr. Karen Bowyer, President of DSCC, followed by a joint proclamation from Dyer County Mayor Chris Young and Dyersburg Mayor John Holden, both of whom are DSCC alumni.
Stan Cavness, Director of the DSCC Baptist Collegiate Ministry (BCM), gave the invocation before dinner was served to each seated guest. As guests enjoyed dinner, Cole Shelton, DSCC Alumni Association President, gave remarks regarding the silent auction being held during the event and then announced the winners.
The silent auction raised a total of $1,265 to benefit the DSCC Alumni Association Scholarship Fund. Highlighting the night was a video presentation featuring current and former DSCC alumni, faculty and staff reminiscing about the past 45 years.
Entertainment during the celebration included performances by DSCC’s Jazz Choir ‘Syncopation’ and DSCC alumnus and comedic-magician Brian Staron.
The night concluded with music and dancing provided by Memphis-based band Jamie Baker and the VIP’s.
