Board of Regents to meet Oct. 31 to consider criteria for next president of Tennessee College of Applied Technology Memphis
The Tennessee Board of Regents will hold a special called meeting Monday, Oct. 31, to consider the criteria for the next president of the Tennessee College of Applied Technology Memphis.
The board will meet virtually at 10 a.m. CT via Microsoft Teams. The meeting will be live-streamed and archived on the TBR website at https://www.tbr.edu/board/october-31-2022-special-called-board-meeting. Board materials, including the proposed criteria for the upcoming presidential search, are posted on the same webpage. TCAT Memphis President Roland Rayner has announced he will retire effective Feb. 28, 2023, after more than 32 years of service in the TBR system. He has led the college since 2009, first as interim president and then as the president since 2010. Dr. Rayner previously served as assistant director, student affairs manager, financial aid coordinator, and evening school coordinator at the college. He has been committed to accomplishing TCAT Memphis' mission by working collaboratively with community partners.
Rayner received the SkillsUSA Administrator of the Year Award in 2016. During his tenure, he expanded the TCAT Memphis footprint in the Memphis-Shelby County area by overseeing nearly $35 million in capital building, campus improvements, and equipment upgrades. His commitment to student success is highlighted by the college maintaining graduation, job placement, and licensure rates that are historically above 75 percent.
After the board approves criteria for the next president, the position will be posted and the search process launched. The Board of Regents governs Tennessee's public community colleges and colleges of applied technology.
TCAT Memphis is one of the largest of the 26 public Tennessee Colleges of Applied Technology across the state providing high-quality career and technical education and accredited by the Council on Occupational Education.
