Board of Regents to meet Aug. 15 to consider presidential appointment at JSCC & criteria for next president of TCAT Dickson

The Tennessee Board of Regents will hold a special called meeting Aug. 15 to review and consider the chancellor’s recommendation of Dr. Carol A. Rothstein for the next president of Jackson State Community College. The board will also consider proposed criteria for the next president of the Tennessee College of Applied Technology Dickson.

The Board of Regents governs Tennessee’s public community colleges and colleges of applied technology. The meeting will be held by teleconference at 10 a.m. CT, Tuesday,  Aug. 15, 2023, and will be live-streamed and archived on the TBR website at https://www.tbr.edu/board/august-15-2023-%E2%80%93-special-called-board-meeting. TBR Chancellor Flora W. Tydings is recommending Dr. Rothstein, currently the vice president of academic affairs and workforce development at Nashville State Community College, for the Jackson State presidency. She is one of three finalists selected by the Search Advisory Committee, announced on July 25. The finalists participated in public forums on campus July 27-31. After the forums, the chancellor reviewed comment and feedback from the forums and conducted further interviews to select one candidate to recommend to the board, which appoints all college presidents within the system.

Rothstein earned a Doctor of Education in Leadership: Higher Education Administration at Frostburg State University, a Master of Arts in Management and Leadership, and a Bachelor of Science in Education, both at Liberty University. The next president will succeed Dr. George Pimentel, who retired as JSCC president June 30. Dr. Kimberly McCormick, executive vice chancellor for external affairs at the Tennessee Board of Regents system office, is serving as interim president until the next president takes office.

The board will also consider criteria for the next president of TCAT Dickson, where President Arrita Summers is retiring effective Dec. 1, 2023. The proposed criteria are included in the board materials for the meeting and are available for review at the Aug. 15, 2023, meeting link above.
