Tennessee Board of Regents to meet Oct. 31 to consider criteria for next president of TCAT Memphis

The Tennessee Board of Regents will hold a special called meeting Nov. 15 to consider the appointment of Laura Travis as the next president of the Tennessee College of Applied Technology Dickson.

The board governs Tennessee’s public community and technical colleges. The meeting will be held by teleconferencing at 9:30 a.m. CT, Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2023, and will be livestreamed and archived on the TBR website at https://www.tbr.edu/board/november-15-2023-special-called-board-meeting. Board materials are posted at the same link. Anyone needing direct access to the Microsoft Teams teleconference, other than the livestream access, should contact Board Secretary Mariah Perry at mariah.perry@tbr.edu or 615-366-3927 by 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14.

The search criteria and process for the next president of TCAT Dickson was approved by the board in an Aug. 15 meeting, following President Arrita Summers’ announcement of plans to retire effective Dec. 1. A search advisory committee reviewed 26 applicants for the presidency and selected Travis as the sole finalist last month.

She participated in a campus interview/public forum on Nov. 3. After reviewing feedback and input from the forum and conducting final interviews, TBR Chancellor Flora W. Tydings is recommending Travis to the board for the appointment.

Ms. Travis is currently TCAT Dickson’s executive vice president of academic affairs and compliance. She joined the college in 1998 as health affairs coordinator, and her responsibilities expanded to academic affairs coordinator in 2015. She was appointed the college’s vice president in 2020, and then to her current position in 2021.

She earned a bachelor of science degree in nursing and a master of science in nursing administration, both at Tennessee Technological University. Prior to joining the TCAT Dickson faculty, she worked as a registered nurse and team leader at Homecare Solutions in Dickson and previously as a registered nurse at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville. Her complete resumé and other information about the search are posted on the Tennessee Board of Regents website at https://www.tbr.edu/hr/executivesearches/president-tcat-dickson.
