TTU takes part in national Day of Making

America has always been a nation of inventors and entrepreneurs, and as everyday citizens and scientists gain access to new technologies like 3D printers, design software and desktop machine tools, we are seeing the rise of the Maker Movement.

As Tennessee Tech University strives to make its mark as a leading technological university in the South, its faculty and staff are pleased to be involved in a venture that promotes innovation and creativity in the hands of young people.

Events are scheduled throughout the day:

10:00 a.m. / Millard Oakley STEM Center, 155 W. 7th Street, Cookeville, Tenn. - TTU mechanical engineering student Anthony W. Taylor of White House, Tenn., is 3D-printing parts for a Newton cart, and he will demonstrate the 3D printing process as well as his work with the Newton cart. This demonstration will also be streamed live at www.tntech.edu/web/live-streaming

3:00 p.m. / Clement Hall, Room 409, TTU Campus, Cookeville, Tenn. - High school students participating in the Governor's School for Emerging Technologies are designing and assembling an engine under the direction of TTU's Dr. Stephen Canfield

To kick off the Day of Making nationwide, President Barack Obama will make an official announcement on Wednesday, June 18 at 10:00 a.m. (EST) and host a White House Makers Faire.

As part of TTU's participation with the Day of Making, TTU staff will be tweeting photos of the activities with hashtags #NationofMakers and #TnTech. The tweets and social media announcements will be added to a special map of the events happening nationwide.

Tennessee Tech is one of only two universities in Tennessee participating in the Day of Making events.
