Board of Regents to meet Nov. 16 to consider appointment of next president of Dyersburg State Community College, followed by meetings of the Board’s Committee Chairs & Audit Committee
The Tennessee Board of Regents will hold a special called meeting Tuesday, Nov. 16, to receive, review and consider acting on the chancellor’s recommendation for the next president of Dyersburg State Community College.
The meeting will be held virtually, starting at 8:30 a.m. CT, and will be streamed and archived on the TBR website at https://www.tbr.edu/board/november-16-2021-special-called-board-meeting.
In addition, the Board’s committee chairs and the Audit Committee will meet, consecutively, on Nov. 16 following the special meeting of the Board, starting at approximately 8:45 a.m. Those meetings are also public meetings, except for a portion of the Audit Committee meeting required under state law to be closed. A Board of Regents Search Advisory Committee selected and announced five finalists for the Dyersburg State presidency last month, each of whom participated in campus visits and public forums Oct. 27 through Nov. 2, at both the Dyersburg campus and the college’s Jimmy Naifeh Center at Tipton County. TBR Chancellor Flora W. Tydings is reviewing input from the forums and meeting with the finalists to select one candidate for recommendation to the Board of Regents.

In May, Dyersburg State President Karen Bowyer announced her plans to retire effective Dec. 31 after 37 years as the College’s third president and 50 years of service in higher education.
The Board of Regents approved criteria for the next president at its June 18 quarterly meeting. The position was posted, and a 17-member Search Advisory Committee was appointed, including four members of the Board as well as representatives of the College’s students, faculty, staff and alumni, and civic and business leaders from the community.
Chaired by Regent Greg Duckett, the committee held its orientation meeting and a public forum Aug. 18. The committee spent subsequent weeks reviewing applicants and nominees before announcing the finalists Oct. 21
The chairs of the Board’s standing committees meet in advance of the full Board’s quarterly meeting to review agenda items and hear reports from TBR staff, with no votes taken. The next quarterly meeting of the full Board is scheduled for Dec. 9.
The agenda for the Nov. 16 committee chairs meeting includes an update on revised budgets and financials, review of academic policies and programs that will be considered at the full Board meeting, reports on student success initiatives and the system’s Black Male Success Initiative, review of institution compensation proposals, a report on the proposed administrative merger of the Tennessee Colleges of Applied Technology at Covington, Ripley and Newbern, and review a draft of the Dec. 9 Board agenda.
