Jackson State Community College provided foundation for Estonian law professor

In 1984, Phil Graves had no idea that his college experience at Jackson State Community College would eventually lead him to teach international law at Tallinn University in Estonia. Graves has been at the university in Estonia for more than 10 years now.

Although he finished his associate degree at JSCC 34 years ago, he recalls his beginning at the college and knows that it set the foundation upon which the rest of his life and career would be built. “Jackson State provided me with an opportunity that I would never have pursued at a 4-year institution,” Graves said.

Mother of two determined to break stereotypes in Advanced Maintenance Technology at JSCC

A married mother of two young children, Asia Ricketts is not your typical student in Jackson State Community College’s Advanced Maintenance Technician (AMT) Co-op.

The 26-year-old Huntingdon resident is Jackson State's first and only woman so far in the college's AMT co-op program. She has embraced the program, attending classes two days a week at Jackson State and learning hands-on experience while working three days a week as a co-op employee at Toyota Bodine in Jackson.

Jackson State Community College athletics takes new flight as Green Jays

Jackson State Community College revealed its new athletic identity as the Green Jays Tuesday (Aug. 21, 2018) in an event open to the employees and the community. The newly refinished gym floor was revealed to spectators eagerly awaiting the new identity.

“From the very beginning we’ve been the Generals,” said Steve Cornelison, JSCC director of athletics and student activities. “At the time this mascot embodied our fighting spirit and continued with us as we built the institution and our athletic program from the ground up.”
