Beginning with the Fall 2014 semester, Chattanooga State Community College began accepting high school freshmen into college-level classes along with their fellow sophomore, junior, and senior classmen.

Tennessee Tech University made the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for the fourth time in six years, and the number of students committed to volunteer service is higher than ever.

MTSU’s Department of Recording Industry is on an international list of acclaimed schools touted by The Hollywood Reporter that includes Juilliard, Berklee, Yale and even London’s Royal College of Music.

The Tennessee Board of Regents Personnel Committee will meet via telephone at 2:30 p.m. CST Tuesday, Nov. 18.

Tennessee State University now has a variety of services specifically designed to help veterans succeed in college while transitioning from military life to civilian life.

The University has been designated a Certified Vets Campus, which designation comes on the heels of the formation of a TSU Student Veterans Association.

The publication announced its Best for Vets: Colleges 2015 rankings this week as the nation celebrates Veterans Day. In their fifth year, the rankings factor in a comprehensive school-by-school assessment of veteran and military students’ success rates.

The Grainger Tools for Tomorrow Scholarship supports technical education and promotes careers in technical areas of work. Grainger is an Illinois-based distributor of facilities maintenance supplies. Upon graduating, recipients also receive $2,500 worth of Grainger hand tools, each with a lifetime replacement guarantee.

Representatives of universities and colleges in the Tennessee Board of Regents system recently participated in a two-day summit to discuss how higher education institutions can better serve students with physical impairments.

Three former college roommates, who dreamed up their moving business idea while still in school at TSU, only had a rented truck and the “grandiose” dream to build a successful moving company like no other. They have turned their three-man moving company into a thriving business with an expected revenue projection of $1.6 million by the end of the next business cycle.

Columbia State Community College was recently awarded a $45,000 grant from NASA that will provide scholarships to women and other underrepresented students enrolled in certain science, technology, engineering and math degree and certificate programs.

But Breland is earning college and high school credit at the same time. And she’s doing it on the Vol State campus in Gallatin. “I’m very independent as it is,” Breland said. “This allows me to do my own thing. I can do it myself.

Nineteen students are the start of a pilot effort at Tennessee Tech University for people with a four-year degree to earn a bachelor’s degree in nursing.

The Whitson-Hester School of Nursing enrolled the students at the beginning of the summer. They will graduate together in December 2015, after 18 months of study.

Jackson State was the recipient of The Southwest Tennessee Development District's (SWTDD) Innovation Award at the organization's annual board meeting on Monday, September 29. Every year, SWTDD recognizes a project within the district that has had a significant impact on the community, demonstrates a cost savings or cost effectiveness for the community, incorporates a creative use of existing resources and positions the community for a positive long-term impact.
