Tennessee Board of Regents Chancellor John Morgan will recommend to the Board that Chris Whaley be appointed the next president to lead Roane State Community College.

Whaley, who currently serves as vice president of student learning and chief academic officer at Roane State, was selected after a nationwide search.

Morgan will ask the Board to vote on his recommendation of Whaley during a special telephonic meeting at 3 p.m. CDT Monday, Oct. 1.

Tennessee Board of Regents community colleges and Tennessee Technology Centers were awarded more than $17.1 million in federal grants for job training programs in health care- and manufacturing-related fields today.

The Tennessee Board of Regents will meet in regular quarterly session at Cleveland State Community College in Cleveland, Tenn., on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 20 and 21.

Committee meetings will begin at 1 p.m. EDT Sept. 20 in the George R. Johnson Cultural Heritage Center. Committees will meet in this order: Tennessee Technology Centers, Academic Policies and Programs, Personnel and Compensation, and Finance and Business Operations. The presidential search advisory committee for Tennessee State University met today to outline the search process and agree on a schedule for future meetings.

The committee’s next meeting and any other meetings where individual applicants or candidates are identified will be closed to the public in order to comply with a new state law. The law provides that identities of candidates for chief executive officer of a Tennessee public higher education institution remain confidential unless the candidate is selected as a finalist for the position.

Three finalists for the presidency of Roane State Community College will participate in interviews, campus forums and community receptions Aug. 27 - 30.

Four candidates were initially selected by the committee to interview, but one has since withdrawn.

The search advisory committee for a new president of Tennessee State University will meet Aug. 27 following a public forum about the search process.The open forum is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 27, from 11 a.m. until noon in the Poag Auditorium of the Humanities Building on the TSU campus. The Tennessee Board of Regents voted to increase tuition and fee rates today for the six universities, 13 community colleges and 27 technology centers it governs. The rates of increase are lower this year than in previous years.
