Complete Tennessee Leadership Institute

Seven of the 30 members of the Complete Tennessee Leadership Institute class of 2020-21 announced today by the State Collaborative on Reforming Education represent Tennessee community and technical colleges and the College System of Tennessee.

SCORE invited the 30 leaders from across higher education, K-12 education, business and industry, and nonprofit organizations to participate in the 5th Complete Tennessee Leadership Institute.

Two College System of TN students awarded prestigious Undergraduate Transfer Scholarships by Jack Kent Cooke Foundation

Nearly 1,500 students from 311 community colleges applied for the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation’s prestigious Undergraduate Transfer Scholarships for 2020 – which provide up to $40,000 a year to complete their bachelor’s degrees.

Only 50 students from 17 states were selected as recipients. Two of them are College System of Tennessee students:

Two Tennessee community college presidents are among the 46 members of the Leadership Tennessee Class of 2020 announced Monday by the statewide leadership initiative.

Dr. Rebecca Ashford, president of Chattanooga State Community College, and Dr. Bethany Flora, president of Northeast State Community College, are among the seven educators -- five from higher education -- selected for the new Leadership Tennessee class.

Four community colleges win grants for high school Mechatronics programs

Four Tennessee community colleges are each receiving a $250,000 state grant to help high school students earn two-year degrees in the high-demand field of mechatronics.

Tennessee Board of Regents Chancellor Flora W. Tydings announced that Chattanooga State, Cleveland State, Motlow State and Roane State community colleges will receive the funding. The grants were funded by a $1 million appropriation in the Fiscal Year 2018-19 State Budget proposed by Gov. Bill Haslam and approved by the Tennessee General Assembly.

The Tennessee Board of Regents today appointed Dr. Rebecca Ashford as the next president of Chattanooga State Community College, effective July 10. “I am honored and humbled to be selected as the next president of Chattanooga State. I look forward to working with the faculty and staff to build upon the college's successes in meeting the community's educational and workforce needs,” she said.

The Tennessee Board of Regents today approved criteria for the next president of Chattanooga State Community College and identified a 19-member Search Advisory Committee to review candidates and recommend finalists for the office.
