Tennessee’s community and technical colleges delivered more than 1.6 million hours of direct workforce training in 2022-23

Driven by a growing number of apprenticeship programs, Tennessee’s public community and technical colleges delivered 1.628 million hours of direct workforce training in 2022-23, the Tennessee Board of Regents Center for Workforce Development announced today. TBR colleges trained 50,589 students and served 880 companies through their broad range of workforce programs.

The College System of Tennessee honored its outstanding students, faculty, staff and supporters of the year at the 4th annual Statewide Outstanding Achievement Awards (SOAR) celebration Wednesday night, March 30, in Nashville.

In addition to individual SOAR award winners, Walters State Community College won the Community College of the Year cup and the Tennessee College of Applied Technology Elizabethton took home the Technical College of the Year honors.

A Vol State grad's hope for the future

More than 2,000 Fall Semester graduates were awarded their degrees and certificates at commencement ceremonies at several of our community and technical colleges in December.

About half of the 40 College System of Tennessee institutions hold Fall commencements. Fall Semester graduates of colleges without December ceremonies can participate in their college's Spring Semester graduation ceremonies, which are held at all the colleges.

Students at Tennessee’s community colleges earned 14,963 Associate degrees and technical certificates during the 2018-19 academic year – a 79 percent increase over the past 10 years despite a slight decrease in student enrollment over the same period.

Board of Regents to meet at Walters State's Niswonger Campus in Greeneville

The Tennessee Board of Regents will hold its fall quarterly meeting Sept. 19-20 at Walters State Community College’s new Niswonger Campus in Greeneville. The agenda includes fall enrollment, preliminary state budget requests for fiscal year 2020-21 and a proposed new entrepreneurship program at Motlow State Community College.
